Synopsis
Johan Zuiderwijk lives with his family and friends in the Bezuidenhout district of The Hague. When the bombing of Rotterdam takes place and the war seems hopeless, he decides to set up a resistance group together with a few others, also because of a Jewish friend.
The group discovers that the Germans have placed rocket installations in the Hague forest that are aimed at London. While the resistance group takes more and more risks during its operations, Johan discovers that there is a traitor among them and friendship is no longer so self-evident.
Meanwhile, the British prepare for the bombing of the Hague forest. That ultimately goes horribly wrong on the morning of March 3, 1945.
Full house at premiere of Bezuidenhout in The Hague
The mid-length fiction film Bezuidenhout had its festive premiere in a packed house last night at the Pathé Buitenhof cinema in The Hague. The film tells the story of a forgotten bombing of The Hague’s Bezuidenhout district during World War II.
You can certainly call the film a passion project. Actor and writer Dirk Gunther Mohr spent almost 1.5 years writing the script for the film. After fruitless efforts to find a producer, Dirk, who also plays the lead role, took matters into his own hands and decided to produce the film himself. A successful crowdfunding campaign brought in enough budget to be able to shoot the film with Wouter Hermans as director and an involved cast and crew.
When he approached Stichting Agie, we knew this would be a special film and we joined the project as a minority co-producer. We are very glad that we helped make the post-production of the film possible through a contribution from the Dutch Film Fund.
On March 3, 1945, the Bezuidenhout district was bombed by the Allies due to an command error. The actual target was the V2 launch base of the German occupier in the Haagse Bos. More than 500 people died in this mistaken bombing and many were injured. This important and forgotten story had to be told.
